The Katsina State Government has commenced the distribution of fertiliser to farmers under the Community Development Programme, popularly known as “Hannu Da Hannu”, warning against any unauthorised price increase.

Banye District in Charanchi Local Government Area is the first to complete payment mobilisation for the 2026 wet season farming, following the launch of the initiative by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda in Malumfashi about two weeks ago.

Speaking during the distribution exercise on Tuesday, the programme coordinator, Prof. Kamaluddeen Kabir Katsina, led a delegation to Banye to hand over fertiliser to farmers who had paid.

He said the government had pegged the price of a bag of fertiliser at N25,000, including transportation to all districts, stressing that any increment would attract sanctions.

“Any official found adding even a naira to the approved price will be made to refund the excess to the affected farmers immediately,” he said.

He added that relevant state agencies, including public complaints and anti-corruption bodies, would take legal action against defaulters.

To ensure smooth distribution, the government approved a N100,000 logistics support grant for each district.

The coordinator also disclosed that five bags of fertiliser were allocated to members of the district committees, who are to purchase them at the approved rate.

The exercise ended with prayers for favourable rainfall and a bumper harvest in the 2026 farming season.
