An on-the-spot assessment by the Editor of Katsina Times has revealed that a section of the ongoing Katsina Motel project has been completed and is now being prepared for commissioning.

During the visit, the head of the company handling the project disclosed that about 43 rooms have been completed and will be opened soon to begin accommodating guests, marking the first phase of the development.

The Editor toured the facility to assess the level of progress, inspecting completed rooms, a restaurant area, and a small conference hall already in place. He was also shown a newly constructed mosque, while work continues on other sections of the project, identified as the second phase.

It would be recalled that in August 2025, the Katsina State Government entered into an investment partnership with a private firm, Omo Resort, for the redevelopment of the Katsina Motel. Under the agreement, the company was expected to invest about N2.5 billion and manage the facility for a specified period to recoup its investment.

However, an earlier investigative report by Katsina Times had raised concerns about the financial capacity of the firm, suggesting it might rely on loans or external investors to execute the project.

Observations from the latest visit indicate that progress has been relatively slow, suggesting that funding may be coming in gradually. This contrasts with the initial projection to complete the first phase within three months.

The first phase is now set to be opened approximately nine to ten months after the commencement of work, raising questions about the timeline for completing subsequent phases and the eventual return on investment to both the company and the state government.

Despite the delays, the completed section of the motel is of high standard, featuring modern facilities and quality finishing. The design and structure are considered unique, with no comparable hospitality facility currently available in Katsina.
