The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, has resigned from office, effective February 9, 2026, citing personal reasons.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Usman said the decision followed personal reflection, prayer, and consultations with his family, stressing that the move was not connected to any dissatisfaction with the commission or the federal government.

According to the statement, Usman submitted his resignation in writing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in line with Section 3(6) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2006.

Usman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, describing his appointment as a privilege. He also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima for what he called consistent guidance and support during his tenure.

The former chairman also acknowledged members of the NAHCON board, management, and staff for their cooperation and commitment, as well as state pilgrims welfare agencies, tour operators, aviation and service providers, and Saudi Arabian authorities involved in Nigeria’s Hajj operations.

He reiterated that his resignation was based solely on personal considerations and did not reflect any disagreement with NAHCON’s mandate or its leadership.

No official statement had been issued by the presidency or NAHCON on arrangements for a replacement as of Tuesday.
