Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, has flagged off the distribution of 1,100 motorcycles to Community Development Programme (CDP) officers and commissioned modern irrigation machinery for deployment across the state, as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots governance and boost agricultural productivity.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday, Governor Radda said the initiative was aimed at deepening people-centred development by ensuring government services reach communities at the grassroots, while empowering farmers to maximize productivity.
According to him, the motorcycles are being provided to CDP officers under a 50 per cent subsidized hire-purchase arrangement and are strictly for official duties. He explained that the initiative would enhance effective community mobilization, supervision of government projects, and monitoring of development interventions across Katsina State. The governor warned that misuse of the motorcycles would attract sanctions in line with Civil Service regulations to ensure accountability.
In further support of agricultural development, Governor Radda also commissioned six modern tube-well drilling machines and three wheel air compressors to expand access to groundwater and promote year-round farming across the state. He noted that the intervention complements the earlier distribution of 4,000 solar-powered irrigation pumps and the ongoing provision of farm inputs, including fertilizers, water pumps, sprayers, herbicides, and pesticides.
The governor said the combined efforts are designed to enhance agricultural productivity, create jobs, and improve the livelihoods of farmers and rural dwellers.
Governor Radda expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Katsina State Irrigation Development Authority, the State House of Assembly, local government councils, and CDP partners for their collaboration and support in ensuring the successful implementation of the state’s development agenda.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building an inclusive, productive, and food-secure Katsina State that reflects its heritage of resilience, hospitality, and progress.
