Governor Radda Inaugurates Katsina State Council of Emirates

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has inaugurated the Katsina State Council of Emirates, describing the development as a historic step toward strengthening collaboration between the state government and traditional institutions.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Government House, Katsina, Governor Radda said the establishment of the Council would deepen cooperation with traditional rulers and enhance governance, peace, and development across the state.

The Governor announced that the Emir of Katsina would serve as Chairman of the Council, with the Emir of Daura as Co-Chairman. Members include principal kingmakers from the Katsina Emirate Council—Kauran Katsina, Yandakan Katsina, Galadiman Katsina, Durbin Katsina, and Marusan Katsina—as well as key officials from the Daura Emirate Council, including the Galadima of Daura, Kauran Daura, Limamin Juma’a, Dansawai, and the Fada Babba of Daura.

Also appointed to the Council are the Secretary to the State Government, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai (Sardaunan Katsina), Ambassador Adamu Saeed Daura, and Alhaji Hamza Abu Duwan (Madawakin Katsina). The Council further includes representatives of business, religious, and youth groups, among them Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Alhaji Baba Buhari (Walin Daura), Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan, Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru of Daura, and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz Malunfashi.

Governor Radda named Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Ida, Wazirin Katsina, as Secretary of the Council, while Sada Salisu Danwairen Katsina will serve as Assistant Secretary.

According to the Governor, the Council is mandated to advise the government on Islamic and customary law, cultural and chieftaincy matters, inter-communal relations, and issues of public order, peace, and security. It will also support community development initiatives, assist tax authorities, promote environmental protection and forest conservation, supervise sanitation activities, and help preserve the state’s cultural heritage and traditional values.

The Governor congratulated members of the Council and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication in the interest of peace, unity, and progress in Katsina State.

Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari; the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Abubakar Danladi; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; and members of the State Executive Council.

The inauguration took place on December 16, 2025.
