UMYU Governing Council Approves Promotion of 113 Academic Staff, Welcomes New Pro-Chancellor

The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has approved the promotion of 113 academic staff members following its 56th meeting held on Thursday, 27 November 2025.

During the meeting, the University formally received its newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, CFR. His arrival was described as a major milestone for the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence and transformative development.

Senator Sirika, who was received by the Management Committee and other Council members, pledged to work diligently with all stakeholders to strengthen the university. He also held strategic meetings with leaders of the four in-house unions, assuring them of cooperation and mutual support for institutional progress.

According to the Council, the promotions took effect from 1 October 2025. A breakdown shows that 19 academic staff members were elevated to the rank of Professor, 20 to Reader, and 31 to Senior Lecturer. Additionally, 17 were promoted to Lecturer I and 26 to Lecturer II. Another 36 staff members were upgraded across various cadres.

In a significant welfare decision, the Council also approved a 100 percent increase in the wages of university cleaners.

The Governing Council expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Salihu Muhammad, commending his management style and the progress recorded under his stewardship.

The meeting ended with renewed commitments to strengthening academic standards and staff welfare across the institution.
