Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Health System
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and strengthening hospitals across the state.
He made the pledge on Wednesday during the flag-off of the distribution of medical equipment and free medicare commodities donated by the World Medical Relief (WMR) of Michigan, USA. The event took place at the Salihu Malle Central Medical Stores in Katsina.
The initiative, coordinated through the Ministry of Health and the Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA), aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure and service delivery in all 34 local government areas.
Governor Radda described the donation—which includes hospital beds, diagnostic machines, and surgical tools—as a “compassionate and timely intervention” that will boost hospital efficiency and improve the working conditions of medical personnel.
“This donation represents compassion across borders — a partnership built on humanity and shared responsibility,” he said. “It will go a long way in improving hospital services and ensuring that our health workers have the equipment they need to save lives.”
He reiterated that healthcare reform remains a top priority of his administration, citing ongoing investments in hospital infrastructure, personnel training, and international partnerships.
The Executive Secretary of the DMSA, Dr. Fatimah Shuaibu Kurfi, disclosed that the state has received eight containers of assorted medical supplies from WMR, with more expected soon. She listed the items to include hospital beds, theatre instruments, diagnostic tools, and patient monitors, distributed according to hospital needs.
The General Manager of the Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB), Dr. Nazir Mohammed Shehu, added that all 26 general hospitals in the state would benefit. He also commended the Governor for facilitating postgraduate medical training in Katsina, saying six departments have already been accredited.
Governor Radda thanked World Medical Relief for its continuous support and assured that all donated items would be properly managed for maximum impact.
Senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, and the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, attended the event.
