The Katsina State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on tertiary institutions in the state to ensure that their students benefit from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The State Director of NOA, Alhaji Muntari Lawal Tsagem, made the appeal while urging managements of tertiary institutions to complete the necessary online registration processes that will link them to the NELFUND platform.
According to him, the call became necessary following reports that some institutions have yet to comply with the registration requirements, a situation that could deny their students access to the loan facility.
Tsagem explained that the student loan scheme is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden of tertiary education on parents and enabling students to focus more on their studies.
He noted that under the scheme, tuition fees are paid directly to institutions, while students receive a monthly upkeep allowance of ₦20,000.
The Director also appealed to leaders of Students’ Unions across tertiary institutions in Katsina State to sensitise their members on the importance of applying for the loans, stressing that the Federal Government has allocated substantial funds for the programme nationwide
