The Katsina State Government has flagged off a step-down training programme for 18,000 teachers alongside the distribution of 20,000 tablet devices to selected participants, aimed at strengthening teaching and improving the standard of education across the state.

The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Local Government Service Commission along Kaita Road, Katsina, where Governor Dikko Umar Radda was represented by his Deputy, Malam Faruq Lawal Jobe.

In his address, Jobe highlighted several key measures taken by the administration to reform the education sector. These include the distribution of 30,000 school uniforms to less-privileged pupils, provision of specialised teaching aids for schools for the blind and deaf, installation of CCTV cameras in 130 schools to enhance security, and the allocation of 70 motorcycles to monitoring officers for effective supervision of schools in rural communities.

“These are not just figures; they represent an investment in the future,” Jobe said. “We are equipping teachers with modern tools and training them to deliver in line with global standards, while preparing our students to compete in the 21st century.”

The State Coordinator of the Transforming Education Systems at State Level (TESS), Hajiya Binta Abdulmumini, explained that the initiative—implemented in partnership with the World Bank and the Federal Government—will cascade training through 90 master trainers who will in turn train the 18,000 teachers. Each teacher will receive a tablet preloaded with teaching materials and modern monitoring applications.

The Chairperson of the Katsina State chapter of the Teachers’ Union, Hajiya Rakiya Shehu, commended the government’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and students, urging stakeholders to ensure the full success of the programme.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, described the initiative as “a significant step” towards restoring the dignity of education in the state. She also expressed appreciation to the World Bank, UBEC, and other partners for their support.

The event was attended by dignitaries including the State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi; Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Kabir Magaji; Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, commissioners, and top security officials.
