The Nigerian Army has launched a full investigation following a viral video showing some soldiers expressing discontent over food items allegedly supplied by their superiors.

The video, which has gained traction on social media and appeared on some mainstream media platforms, shows personnel displaying food items and voicing concerns over their quality and quantity. While the authenticity and context of the footage are still being verified, the Army says the issue is receiving urgent attention.

In response, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate and comprehensive probe into the matter. According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS emphasized that transparency and accountability will guide the investigation and that its findings will be made public once concluded.

General Oluyede reiterated his commitment to troop welfare, aligning with his leadership vision “to consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force.” This philosophy is encapsulated in the recently launched “Soldier First” initiative, which places the dignity, well-being, and readiness of soldiers and their families at the centre of Army policies.

The Army also cautioned personnel against using unauthorized platforms to air grievances, noting that such actions violate military ethics and discipline. Instead, troops were urged to channel their concerns through established internal mechanisms.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining high standards of leadership accountability, institutional integrity, and troop welfare in pursuit of its constitutional duties.
