Former Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital after a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Press, Ibrahim Musa Kallah, Yakubu also commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governors across the federation, Governor Dikko Umar Radda, and the people of Katsina State—Buhari’s home state—over the national loss.

Alhaji Yakubu described the late President Buhari as a dedicated leader who tirelessly tackled Nigeria’s many challenges with sincerity and integrity. He emphasized that Buhari’s contributions to national development earned him a place in history, and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his soul, asking the Almighty to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.

"Buhari’s passing marks the end of an era, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of millions and in the soul of Nigeria for generations to come," Yakubu said.

He noted that while President Buhari was not perfect—like any human—he remained committed to justice, accountability, and the well-being of the Nigerian people. According to Yakubu, the former president's leadership style was guided more by duty than ambition and by principle more than popularity.

"His faith was his compass. He lived modestly, judged fairly, and bore the burden of his office with solemn responsibility. Buhari was firm in his anti-corruption stance and relentless in his pursuit of national security. Though his policies were debated, his intentions were rarely questioned," Yakubu added.

He further described the late president as a devout Muslim, a humble statesman, and a man who bore trials with patience and successes with humility.

“May Allah, the Most Merciful, forgive his shortcomings, reward his service, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. May He comfort his family, his loved ones, and the nation he served. Let us honour his memory not with empty tributes, but by continuing the work he believed in — the building of a just, peaceful, and united Nigeria,” Yakubu concluded.
