A fresh internal crisis has erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as prominent members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have publicly rejected recent decisions announced by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum.

In a strongly worded press statement released on Wednesday, the NWC refuted Damagum’s claim that the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had been cancelled or postponed. The committee reaffirmed that the NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled on Monday, June 30, 2025, in line with a binding resolution reached during the 99th NEC meeting.

The NWC also rejected Damagum’s declaration reinstating Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, insisting that the matter has already been referred to the forthcoming NEC meeting for deliberation and resolution.

Citing Section 31(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the NWC emphasized that no individual or organ, including the Acting Chairman or the NWC itself, has the authority to cancel or override decisions of the NEC.

“The NEC remains the highest decision-making body of the party after the National Convention, and its decisions are binding on all members and structures of the PDP,” the statement stressed.

The statement was jointly signed by key party officials, including:

  • Amb. Taofeek Arapaja – Deputy National Chairman (South)

  • Hon. (Arc) Setonji Koshoedo – Ag. National Secretary

  • Hon. Ahmed Yayari Mohammed – National Treasurer

  • Sir Okechukwu Obiechina-Daniel – National Auditor

  • Hon. Debo Ologunagba – National Publicity Secretary

  • Dr. Woyengikuro Daniel – National Financial Secretary

  • High Chief Ali Odefa – National Vice Chairman (South-East)

  • Hon. Emmanuel Gidi – Caretaker Chairman (South-South)

  • Hon. Mrs. Amina Darasimi D. Bryhm – National Woman Leader

  • Sen. Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, CON – National Vice Chairman (North-West)

  • Hon. Ajisafe Kamoru Toyese – National Vice Chairman (South-West)

This latest development highlights growing divisions in the party's leadership as it heads into what could be a tense and decisive 100th NEC meeting.
