TUC, Veteran Journalists Unite to Tackle Fake News, Propaganda in Katsina

The Katsina state chairman of Trade Union Congress -TUC Alhaji Muntari Abdu Rumah has expressed commitment to work closely with officials and members of National League of Veteran Journalists -NALVEJ to check the spread of fake News and negative propaganda in the state.
Alhaji Muntari Abdu Rumah  was speaking when he received Executive officers of Katsina state chapter of National League of Veteran Journalists -NALVEJ in his office at Madugu House, kofar kwaya, Katsina.
The congress chairman who is also the chairman of the state chapter of Senior Civil servants Association recalled the pioneering role of the press and labour movements in charting a course for Nigeria since the colonial era, adding that there was need to re-echo such collaborative efforts to salvage the society from the twin evils of spread of fake News and negative propaganda.
He noted the recruitment of illiterate persons as news marauders in the name of journalism that had taken over cellular phones of the citizenry , thereby taking the country to dark ages.
Alhaji Muntari Abdu Rumah  who is also the RAYA KARKARAN KASAR RUMAH however said it is not too late to begin to change the narratives, saying the visit by NALVEJ to his office would be a step in the right direction.
The TUC chairman recognize the role of conventional media in the task of nation building, advising NALVEJ to remain focus and vigil for the masses to have a breathing space.
He also called on NALVEJ to reawaken the masses to properly utilise voters card to stop looters from taking over the mantle of leadership in the Nigerian political space.
Earlier in a remark, the chairman of Katsina state chapter of National League of Veteran Journalists -NALVEJ, Mallam Badamasi Bukar Rumah told the congress chairman that members of the league were in his office to collaborate for the success of programme of the duo in moving the society forward.
He said membership of the league is made up of Journalists with 25 years working experience in conventional media houses such as Radio, Television, Newspapers, and Magazines.
Mallam Badamasi Bukar Rumah explained that NALVEJ is out to reduce the impact of fake News and negative propaganda by the social media in the society.
He stressed the need for collaboration with TUC to surmount some of the challenges of implantation of the Aims and objectives of NALVEJ in Katsina state and the nation at large.
Highlights of the visit was the setting up of a powerful committee for the implementation of the collaboration for an MOU to be signed later.
