PDP Defectors Declare Loyalty to Mustapha Inuwa’s “Sabuwar Tafiya” Movement
Over 250 Former PDP Aspirants in Katsina Join New Political Coalition
In a major political realignment in Katsina State, over 250 former aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially pledged allegiance to Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa’s political movement, Coalition Sabuwar Tafiya.
The high-profile defection, which took place on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, at Dr. Inuwa’s campaign office along Mani road in Katsina, included 25 former House of Representatives aspirants, 10 former local government chairmanship contenders, and over 220 former councillorship candidates across the 34 local government areas of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Jamilu Yahaya Kankara, a former PDP House of Reps aspirant, cited internal injustice, betrayal, and manipulation during the 2023 elections as key reasons for abandoning the PDP.
“We were sidelined, deceived, and reduced to pawns in a selfish power game. Our talents, education, and political experience were disregarded. That’s why we’ve joined Sabuwar Tafiya, a platform we believe is serious, sincere, and people-oriented,” Kankara stated.
In his response, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, convener of the Coalition Sabuwar Tafiya and former Secretary to the State Government, welcomed the defectors, praising their courage and political foresight.
“From today, you are officially part of our decision-making and strategic committees at both state and national levels. Your inclusion is not symbolic; it’s strategic,” he declared.
Dr. Inuwa urged the new members to work with unity and sincerity of purpose, warning that self-interest is what has brought Nigeria’s leadership to its current state of dysfunction.
The symbolic endorsement was witnessed by key political figures backing Dr. Inuwa’s movement, including Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, Hajiya Amina Mani, and Ambassador Yakubu Muhammad, among others.
The mass defection signals a growing political momentum for Coalition Sabuwar Tafiya, potentially reshaping the 2027 political landscape in Katsina State.
