Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for recognising two prominent sons of the state—Senator Abu Ibrahim and the late Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua—with distinguished national honours during the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations.

Senator Abu Ibrahim, a political elder statesman and former lawmaker representing Katsina South Senatorial District, was conferred with the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR), one of Nigeria’s highest honours. The late Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua was posthumously awarded the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR)—a distinction rarely given to non-presidents.

Describing the honours as “well deserved,” Governor Radda congratulated both the living and posthumous recipients, noting their enduring legacies in national service and democratic development.

“This honour is exceptionally well deserved. Senator Abu Ibrahim has devoted his life to serving our people with honesty, strength, and leadership. He has mentored many young leaders and consistently stood for what is right,” Radda said in a statement.

He further commended Senator Ibrahim’s behind-the-scenes contributions to fostering unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his role in nurturing future political leaders, particularly in Katsina State.

On the posthumous honour bestowed upon General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Governor Radda noted the significance of the award to the people of Katsina, describing the late General as “a symbol of sacrifice, justice, and national unity.”

“Shehu Yar’Adua gave his life for democracy. His courage and commitment to freedom continue to inspire generations. This honour is a permanent reminder of the democratic legacy he helped shape,” Radda stated.

General Yar’Adua, who served as Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters during the military era, became a vocal advocate for democratic governance until his death in prison under military rule.

Governor Radda expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for recognising the contributions of Katsina-born leaders in the 2025 national honours. He urged the people of Katsina, especially the youth, to emulate the lives of both honourees.

He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, and educators across the state to uphold the values of service, justice, and patriotism exemplified by the two statesmen.
