A major political shift appears to be underway in Katsina State as prominent politicians, led by former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, have launched a new political movement aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Inuwa, speaking during a high-level political strategy meeting held at his office along Mani Road, near the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina city, accused the APC of betrayal, dishonesty, and internal dictatorship. The meeting brought together political leaders from all 34 local government areas of the state to strategize on forming what Inuwa described as a credible alternative to the ruling party.

“We are in talks with key political stakeholders nationwide to establish a credible alternative that can rescue this country from a government that has failed the masses,” he declared.

He alleged that APC’s internal processes have been marred by sham primaries and the suppression of democratic participation, claiming that many hopefuls who joined the party seeking automatic tickets were later sidelined.

“They were deceived. Now the reality is dawning on them, but it appears time is no longer on their side,” Inuwa added.

According to him, a full public unveiling of the new political platform is expected before the end of May. He urged Nigerians disillusioned by government failures to come together to build a viable political future.

Notable figures reportedly involved in the emerging movement include Ambassador Yaqub Mohammed, Babangida Talau Member, Dr. Manseer, among others expected to play significant roles both in Katsina and on the national stage.

“Our concern is not about switching parties; it is about the plight of the common people. We are with them, and with their support, we are confident of success,” Dr. Inuwa affirmed.

He concluded with a call for patience, prayers, and renewed political awareness among citizens, urging them to reject what he described as years of political deception.

Also speaking at the meeting, former Senator representing Daura Senatorial District, Ahmad Babba Kaita, confirmed his involvement in a national strategy committee focused on the formation of the new initiative. He said the committee is nearing the end of its consultations, with options including the creation of a new political party, a merger with an existing one, or a broad alliance of opposition elements.

Senator Kaita revealed that although the committee had earlier considered joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), internal crises within the party halted that plan. He also distanced himself from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), despite ongoing discussions.

“The committee has completed its assignment. We have a new political platform, and within the next three weeks, the name of the party will be unveiled,” Kaita announced.

Other prominent figures present at the event included Arc. Ahmed Aminu Yar’adua, former Katsina State PDP Chairman Salisu Lawal Uli, former House of Representatives member Hon. Salisu Iro Isansi, former senatorial aspirant Hon. Aminu Makera, and former PDP National Secretary Senator Ibrahim Tsauri.

With political consultations intensifying and fresh coalitions emerging, analysts say the initiative poses a potential threat to the APC’s dominance in Katsina and the wider North-West region, ahead of the 2027 elections.
