The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their recent achievements in combating crime, urging them to intensify efforts against emerging security threats across the country.

Speaking during a high-level strategic conference held today at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Building, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP met with senior police officers from the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs) and above to review security developments and strengthen the Force’s operational strategies.

Highlighting the achievements recorded between April and May 2025, the IGP revealed that the Nigeria Police Force arrested 1,774 criminal suspects involved in various offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and murder. Additionally, 274 firearms, 2,583 rounds of ammunition, and 187 stolen or unregistered vehicles were recovered. The police also successfully rescued 476 kidnapped victims, some from highly challenging terrains.

IGP Egbetokun praised the commitment and professionalism of officers, noting that their efforts have significantly contributed to national security. He, however, called for greater urgency in responding to incidents, increased community presence, and the adoption of proactive policing measures.

“Staying ahead of criminal elements requires intelligence-led operations and the effective use of modern technology,” the IGP said, stressing the importance of foresight, vigilance, and collaboration across all commands.

The conference ended with a renewed commitment from senior police leadership to implement the IGP’s directives and sustain a coordinated approach in tackling crime and maintaining law and order nationwide.
