The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has clarified that a video circulating on social media showing a shooting incident involving its officers is not recent, but occurred on 17 February 2019 at the Shagamu Interchange in Ogun State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NCS said the incident had been addressed at the time through its internal disciplinary mechanisms. According to the statement, a public announcement was made in 2019, and a panel was set up to investigate the matter, which resulted in the dismissal of the officers found guilty.

“The issue had been conclusively addressed, and justice was served in accordance with the Service’s regulations,” the statement said.

The agency noted that while it acknowledges public concern over the resurfaced video, it urged Nigerians to avoid spreading misleading information and to rely on official communication channels for verified updates.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Customs Service said it remains committed to transparency, professional conduct, and internal reforms, including targeted training for its personnel to strengthen accountability.

The statement was signed by Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Comptroller-General.
