Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D., has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving children’s welfare, healthcare, and education. He made this known during the 2025 Children's Day celebration held on Tuesday, 27th May, at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Describing the day as historic and memorable, Governor Radda commended the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and Commissioner Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa for organizing the event. “We are proud of our children. Their courage and discipline today remind us of our own school days,” he said.
He urged the Ministry to continue encouraging schools to participate in such events, stating that the large turnout of schools and pupils was commendable.
Governor Radda emphasized the value of children in all cultures and religions in Nigeria, describing them as “gifts from God and symbols of tomorrow.” He called on society to protect children through peace, quality education, and access to healthcare.
“This year’s Children’s Day is not just symbolic, but a special call to action,” the governor stressed. “Health, education, and empowerment of every child – boy or girl, urban or rural – must be at the forefront of national development.”
Highlighting key achievements of his administration in child development, Governor Radda noted that over 104,000 girls from 255 secondary schools have benefitted from financial support to purchase school materials under the Girls’ Education Advancement Programme, reducing dropout rates and boosting enrolment.
In healthcare, he revealed that more than 2.2 million children have been immunized against measles across the state. The government also invested over N200 million in malnutrition intervention programmes in collaboration with UNICEF.
To promote vocational skills, over 2,000 students received training in various handcrafts. Additionally, the government fully sponsored WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB exam fees to encourage academic excellence.
“You are our pride and our future. We believe in you, and we are working tirelessly to build a world where your dreams become reality,” the governor told the children.
He also expressed gratitude to stakeholders, including civil society organizations, government agencies, and community leaders for their contributions to children's welfare.
“May God continue to guide us, bless us, and grant our children wisdom and compassion to become just and upright citizens,” he concluded.
The event featured parades, awards to schools, and sporting activities. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Ummulkhairi Ahmad Bawa.
