A group of armed bandits met stiff resistance in their attempt to invade Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State late Monday night, 5 May 2025.

According to local residents who spoke to Katsina Times via phone but requested anonymity, the attack began around 11:00 p.m. and resulted in an intense gun battle between security forces and the assailants that lasted until approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sources confirmed that the bandits abducted an unspecified number of people during the failed operation, with the exact number of victims still unknown as of the time of this report.

One of the gang leaders, identified as Malam — a notorious figure responsible for several attacks across Danmusa, Kankara, Safana, and parts of Zamfara State — was reportedly neutralized by security operatives during the encounter.

Tragically, a married woman lost her life in the crossfire, and several other women sustained injuries.

Confirming the incident to Katsina Times, the Katsina State Commissioner for Security Affairs, Alhaji Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, praised the swift and courageous response of the security forces. He commended their efforts in preventing the criminals from unleashing terror on the town.

Alhaji Nasiru also confirmed that the slain gang leader was a commander of ISWAP in the region, whose activities had long threatened peace in the area.

He further expressed deep appreciation to the residents of Danmusa for their continued cooperation and support to security agencies, emphasizing that community involvement remains key in the fight against insecurity.
