Junior Katsina United secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Kano-based Gwammaja FC in the third round of the Nationwide League Division One (NWL Div. 1) encounter played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
The match was filled with intense moments and competitive play from both sides. Junior Katsina United opened the scoring in the 19th minute through forward Umar Rabi’u, popularly known as “Dugwi,” who finished off a brilliant assist from Salihu Sani “Pele.”
Despite trailing early, Gwammaja FC fought back and managed to level the score just before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to bring the game to 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, Junior Katsina United’s head coach, Aminu Musa Shamaki, made tactical substitutions to reinforce the attack. The move paid off in the 70th minute when Abubakar Maiwada found the back of the net, combining superbly with teammates Ibrahim Ibrahim and Abdulrahman Sa’idu to restore the lead.
Gwammaja FC launched a series of relentless attacks in a bid to equalize once more, but Junior Katsina United’s defense, led by the impressive Abubakar Zumbu, stood firm. Zumbu pulled off at least four vital saves to deny the hosts another goal.
At full time, Junior Katsina United emerged victorious with a 2-1 win—marking their second triumph in three matches and boosting their campaign for promotion in the ongoing NWL season.
