Thousands of followers of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky in Katsina State staged a peaceful protest on Friday, marking the last Friday of Ramadan, to express solidarity with the people of Palestine amid ongoing Israeli military actions. The demonstration was part of a global movement commemorating the International Quds Day, established by Iran’s Islamic Revolution leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, as a day of unity and support for Palestinians.
The protest, attended by men, women, and children from different parts of Katsina, saw participants carrying Palestinian flags and placards highlighting the suffering of Palestinians. Protesters chanted slogans condemning Israeli oppression in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Leading the protest, Sheikh Yaqub Yahaya Katsina emphasized that the demonstration was a show of support from the Muslim community for their Palestinian brethren facing continued hardship. He criticized Israel for persistent human rights violations against Palestinians despite international peace efforts.
Notably, Christian religious leaders also participated in the protest, expressing their solidarity with Palestinians and calling for peace and justice in the Middle East. One of the Christian leaders present stressed the need for collective action to end the suffering of Palestinians and ensure their right to self-determination.
The peaceful protest concluded with prayers for an end to the plight of Palestinians and the restoration of their fundamental rights.
