20th March, 2025
Our attention has been drawn to the contents of the Katsina State Audit Report, 2023, as cited by an online news medium where the management of KTSTA was both commended and indicted.
However, while the news report stated that KTSTA was commended in the audit report for purchasing nine additional busses in 2022, it did not state the year in which funds went missing, according to the report.
We therefore wish to clarify as follows:
1. The outstanding unaccounted expenditure to the tune of N407, 203,495.50, and the unaccounted revenue to the tune of N24,014, 096.50 as refered to in the Audit Report were not incurred under the current management of KTSTA.
2. Those outstanding amounts were incurred between 2016 and 2017 before the current management came on board under the leadership of Hon Babangida Nasamu administration.
3. The Haruna Musa Rugoji-led management came on board in 2018, and since he was appointed, no case of financial mismanagement was reported in the agency.
** We also wish to clarify that when the Haruna Musa Rugoji-led management of KTSTA came on board in 2018, it inherited a debt of over N50 million which it cleared.
It also met and cleared other debts that include salaries, imprest, allowances, and all other related liabilities owed to KTSTA staffers, dealers, traders of vehicle spare parts, etc.
The management also met 106 vehicles out of which 57 were grounded with various degrees of mechanical, electrical and maintenance faults. Today, all KTSTA Buses are in good condition, serviceable and are generating revenue for the state government.
The Rugoji-led management introduced a Public-Private Partnership system which generated more revenue for the agency and the state government, part of the revenue is being used for vehicle maintenance.
Under the current management, funds realized by KTSTA are being managed very prudently and efficiently, with no wastages and no leakages while the agency ensures value for money in line with the Malam Dikko Radda administration's policy of zero tolerance for corruption.
Moreover, the KTSTA management has opened new substations in some Local Government Areas in order to ease transport for residents in different parts of Katsina State.
We will continue to manage the agency prudently, efficiently and transparently, while delivering the best transportation services for the people of Katsina State.
