CNG Warns Tinubu: Distance Yourself from Wike’s Political Crisis

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the ongoing political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, does not affect his administration.

The call follows President Tinubu’s suspension of Rivers State Governor and his deputy on Monday night.

In a statement signed by CNG’s National President, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group asserted that Wike’s political maneuvers do not reflect the interests of the people of Rivers State or the Niger Delta region but are driven by personal ambition and discord.

“We urge President Tinubu to recognize that Wike’s actions are more about personal interests than public good. It is crucial to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law rather than yielding to a politician focused on self-gain,” Charanchi stated.

CNG described Wike’s political influence as a significant test for Tinubu’s leadership, stressing that national unity and cooperation are essential to counteract any divisive agenda.

“The world is watching to see how President Tinubu will navigate this situation to ensure good governance and fulfill Nigerians’ aspirations,” the statement added.

The group also called on stakeholders—including civil society organizations, politicians, and the public—to prioritize peace and democracy over political unrest.

“This crisis serves as a warning that dialogue and mutual understanding must take precedence over conflict and division,” CNG stated, further cautioning President Tinubu against allowing his relationship with Wike to undermine national stability.

“We will not allow one man's ambition to plunge the country into chaos. We stand ready to support any initiative that promotes peace and the well-being of Nigerians,” the statement emphasized.

CNG also warned that the ongoing political tension could pose serious risks to national security and economic stability.

“No single individual’s ambitions should dictate the country’s direction or hinder the implementation of policies that benefit the people,” the group reaffirmed.

The statement further referenced Wike’s role in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, accusing him of employing political tactics that contributed to Jonathan’s electoral defeat.

“President Tinubu must remain vigilant, especially as the public closely monitors his actions regarding the situation in Rivers State,” the group concluded.
