A suspected female gunrunner, Hauwa Sani, has confessed to concealing 124 rounds of live ammunition inside a jerrycan of palm oil to successfully transport them to bandits.

Sani, known for smuggling arms and trafficking drugs, was arrested by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad along the Keffi-Abuja Expressway. During interrogation, she admitted that a man identified as Nasiru from Daura instructed her to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State.

Speaking to journalists at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

“The public should be wary of the tactics employed by smugglers. Any suspicious item should be reported immediately to the appropriate authorities,” Adejobi stated.

He further revealed that investigations conducted by the tactical squad led to additional arrests and recoveries, which are currently undergoing profiling. He reiterated the force’s commitment to disrupting criminal activities, including arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and currency counterfeiting.

“These achievements reflect the dedication of our tactical teams, particularly the Force Intelligence Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS),” he said.

In another operation on February 1, 2025, the FID-STS, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted three suspects—Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 50; Joseph Matthew, 27; and Solomon Bala, 25—all residents of Potiskum, Yobe State.
