The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has indicated his intention to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved political interests as the reason for his defection.

In a viral one-minute video circulating on social media, Wike questioned whether APC leaders were ready to fulfill the commitments that PDP failed to deliver, emphasizing that his decision was based on the interests of his people rather than personal political survival.

"I know now that I'm going to APC. I'm leaving PDP to APC. See the reasons why I'm leaving PDP to join you. Tell me, are you willing to do all these things that PDP didn't do for me? What I mean for me? For my people. Are you willing to do them?" Wike stated.

He further suggested that his defection could trigger a mass movement of political allies, including senators and assembly members, in what he described as a decision made in the best interest of his state and region.

"If that is the case, then when I'm leaving PDP, you will see the Senators will go with me. The House of Wives will go with me. The Assembly will go with me. Because it's for the interest of the state. It's for the interest of the region," he added.

Wike's statement has sparked speculations about an impending realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in Rivers State, where he holds significant influence. However, he has yet to make an official declaration of his defection.
