The Katsina State Government has launched the Runbun Sauki initiative to cushion the economic hardship caused by rising food prices. The official launch took place at the State Government Secretariat conference hall, presided over by Governor Dikko Umar Radda, alongside his deputy, Faruq Lawal Jobe, Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Chief of Staff Alhaji Falalu Bawale, commissioners, senior government officials, and key stakeholders.

In his address, Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to alleviating economic hardship. He emphasized that Runbun Sauki is not just about food distribution but a structured support system aimed at assisting civil servants, retirees, and vulnerable individuals by providing essential goods at subsidized prices.

“The world is facing economic challenges, and rising prices have put pressure on many families. As a responsible government, we must take steps to reduce this burden,” the governor stated.

The state government has allocated over ₦4 billion for the program, which will initially be implemented in Katsina, Funtua, and Daura before expanding to all 34 local government areas.

To ensure transparency, the program will utilize a digital payment system through specially designed ATM cards, preventing corruption and ensuring that only eligible beneficiaries access the support. The cost of the subsidized goods will be deducted from employees' salaries to ease financial strain.

Chief of Staff Alhaji Falalu Bawale commended the initiative, describing it as a major breakthrough in employee welfare. He highlighted the government’s efforts, including the introduction of a ₦70,000 minimum wage and prompt payment of pensions and gratuities.

He urged civil servants and retirees to embrace the scheme and utilize it effectively.

State and local government employees, as well as retirees, can register via www.katsinarumbunsauki.com.ng by entering their staff identification numbers for verification.

Governor Radda warned against any form of misconduct or corruption in implementing the program, vowing that violators would face strict penalties.

“If we work together—including traditional and religious leaders—we will ensure that no Katsina resident suffers from food scarcity,” he assured.

The Runbun Sauki initiative marks a significant step in Katsina’s efforts to support residents during these challenging economic times.
