In a dramatic turn of events, the town of Bakori was the target of a late-night bandit attack that fortunately ended without major incident. The bandits stormed the town around midnight, focusing on the Unguwar-Sanyi area, which is home to notable figures such as the outgoing Local Government Chairman, Ali Mai-Chitta, and prominent businessman, Tukur Ƙashi.
The vigilance of the community played a crucial role in thwarting the bandits' plans. As soon as the bandits were spotted, residents quickly alerted others, leading to a swift response that disrupted the bandits' nefarious activities as gunfire ranted the air. Although the bandits managed to snatch some phones and torchlights from a few individuals, their primary mission was said to be unsuccessful.
News of the incident quickly spread across social media platforms, with many residents sharing their accounts of the night's events. Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, the member representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, took to his Facebook page to express his condolences to the people of Bakori. He vowed to take all legal measures necessary to restore peace to the area.
This latest incident comes on the heels of the abduction of former NYSC DG, Brigadier General Maharazu Ismail Tsiga (Rtd), who was taken captive by bandits on February 6, 2025. The bandits are demanding a ransom of 250 million Naira for his release. General Tsiga is believed to be held by a notorious bandit known as Babaro in the Mununu Forest, which lies along the border between Kankara and Faskari Local Government Areas.
Recently released victims of Babaro, who were freed after paying a ransom of 30 million Naira, have reported seeing General Tsiga being held captive with them, raising further concerns about the ongoing banditry issue in the region.
Despite the challenges, the community of Bakori remains resilient. The quick response and community alertness demonstrated during this incident highlight the importance of collective vigilance in combating such threats.
