The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Katsina State has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting the Engineering Materials and Equipment Development Institute (EMEDI) during a courtesy visit by a delegation led by Dr. M. S. Abdullahi. The meeting, held at the Katsina State Secretariat, focused on reviewing the progress of the institute, its challenges, and the way forward.
In his address, the SSG welcomed the delegation on behalf of the state government, acknowledging the significance of EMEDI’s contributions to scientific research and industrial development. He commended the initiative for its portable and mobile laboratory solutions, highlighting their role in enhancing science-based education in the state.
“We have reviewed the progress of the project, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the challenges outlined by the project manager. The state government remains committed to fulfilling its part of the agreement to ensure the project's success,” the SSG assured.
He emphasized the government's willingness to address the challenges faced by EMEDI, stating, “We will critically examine your concerns and make the necessary recommendations to the government. Our doors remain open for follow-ups and collaboration.”
Dr. Abdullahi, speaking on behalf of EMEDI, expressed gratitude to the state government for its support. He noted that the project, which began under the previous administration, is crucial to Katsina’s economic and technological development. He also praised the state’s strategic role in hosting one of the institute’s key research and manufacturing centers.
“The establishment of EMEDI in Katsina was based on extensive research, which identified the state as a hub for valuable mineral resources. The institute is poised to leverage these resources to enhance industrial development and technological advancement,” Dr. Abdullahi stated.
He further highlighted the collaborative efforts between the state government and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), which oversees EMEDI. He called for continued support to ensure the timely completion of the institute’s infrastructure and the provision of essential equipment.
The visit concluded with an assurance from the state government to expedite its commitments to EMEDI, reinforcing its role in boosting innovation, job creation, and economic diversification in Katsina State.
