Katsina 2025 Budget Is A Product of Rigorous Legislative Process - Speaker
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has assented to the 2025 Budget of Building Your Future II into law.
Governor Radda signed a budget of N692,244,449,513.87, this had a slight increase of N10 Billion against the initial budget of N682,244,449,523.87 submitted by the Governor on the 25th of November, 2024.
During the signing exercise, the Governor lauded the State Assembly for working tirelessly in ensuring the state has budget that will run developmental activities for the year 2025. The Governor also acknowledged diligence exercise conducted by the MDAs to ensure the state has budget that will guide the administration.
"Our budget is one of shining examples in the country budget performance of the 2024, which I believe we have done extremely well, the Governor stated. He added, if you look at the composition of the budget 2025, Katsina has at today is ranked the lowest in terms of recurrent expenditure 22.8% of the total budget against the 28% of 2024 recurrent expenditure
The Governor pointed that this has drastically reduced by about 6%, indicating that the state is giving more attention and focus on capital projects which represents more than 77% of the total budget.
Governor Radda further noted that this shows that the state administration reduced the spending in the budget against the 2024.
Speaking on the budget focus, Governor Radda explained that the 2025 budget prioritized capital projects with education taking the lead, followed by agriculture. The Governor emphasized that the capital project will make citizens more reliant, make life better and reduce the poverty level.
The Governor equally commended the State Assembly efforts on oversight functions, noting that the year 2024 oversight functions make sure MDAs are up to their responsibilities, urging the legislators not to relent for the state to achieve optimum transparency, accountability and good governance.
Earlier, the Katsina State House Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura described the 2025 budget as a product of rigorous legislative process, adding that the state legislators are proud to have worked tirelessly to ensure that it reflects the needs and aspirations of the people.
Rt. Hon. Nasir stressed that after a careful review during the budget defence by the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, an additional N10 Billion Naira was discovered and added to the budget. "This gives us the total sum of N692,244,449,513,87, against the formal N682,244,449,513,87 that was submitted by Your Excellency," the Speaker added.
Rt. Hon. Nasir continued that this revised budget will provide the necessary framework for the development of the state in improving the living standard of citizens.
Rt. Hon. Nasir who led other members of the state legislators appreciated Governor Radda's commitment to the development of the people. "We are confident, with this budget, more progress will be recorded across the state," he concluded.
Recall that the 2025 budget was submitted on the 25th November, 2025, subsequently the State House of Assembly swung into action, inviting MDAs for further thorough defence. Hence, the signing of the budget today which shows intense legislative-executive relationship.
