The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cleared Fauziya, daughter of Danjuma Goje, senator representing Gombe central, of allegation of naira abuse at her wedding ceremony.
In October, Fauziya married Aliyu Ahmed Abubakar. President Bola Tinubu was among the dignitaries who attended the wedding fatiha held at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Others who graced the event were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tajuddeen Abbas, the speaker of the house of representatives; Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president; Umar Ganduje, All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman; and Abdullahi Adamu, former APC national chairman.
A few days after the ceremony, clips of a wedding reception where naira notes littered the dance floor as the bride was being sprayed with more money surfaced online.
Many social media users claimed the incident happened at Goje’s daughter’s wedding.
However, the EFCC, in a statement on Monday, said its analysis of the video revealed that the alleged naira abuse did not happen at Fauziya’s wedding ceremony.
The anti-graft agency identified the event where the incident happened as “the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah”.
“Zannah is the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna (a.k.a. Hafsat Gold Nigeria), who is the Chief Executive Officer of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise with offices in Abuja, Kano, and Dubai (United Arab Emirate),” the statement reads.
She admitted that the alleged naira abuse took place at the wedding dinner of her daughter on October 24, 2024.
“The bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad, hails from the Niger Republic, and those that allegedly sprayed naira notes and dollar bills were from the groom’s family in the Niger Republic.”
The EFCC added that it had invited the Nigerien groom and everyone who had sprayed naira notes at his wedding.
