Hisbah Board Commends Katsina State House of Assembly for Passing Law Establishing the Board

The Katsina State Hisbah Board has expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the Katsina State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahya Daura, for approving the law that formally established the Hisbah Board in the state.

The Chairman of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Aminu Usman (Abu Ammar) Ph.D, conveyed this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the board to the House of Assembly on Wednesday, September 25, at the Assembly complex in Kofar Sauri along the Kaita road in Katsina town.

Dr. Aminu Usman, accompanied by the council Chairman of the Board, Brigadier Ahmad Dako (Rtd), and other members, stated, "We should have come earlier to express our gratitude and appreciation, as it was the Assembly that passed the law establishing the Hisbah Board. However, due to the state's unrest in the first seven months, we were focused on restoring law and order."

Dr. Usman went on to highlight some key initiatives implemented since he took office, noting that they began by reaching out to various Islamic scholars with differing views to foster collaboration and gain their support in maintaining order in the state.

"In fact, we have also visited key security agencies in Katsina State and traditional rulers to secure cooperation in reinstating moral discipline among the youth," he said.

He added, "Among our achievements, we have reconciled over a thousand marriages in Katsina State and played a significant role in curbing the influence of DJs, which has been corrupting the morals of young people. Additionally, we have mediated debt disputes and similar conflicts, leading to more people turning to the Hisbah Board rather than courts."

In conclusion, the Hisbah Commander urged the Katsina State House of Assembly to review certain aspects of the law establishing the board, citing challenges they face and asking for further support and encouragement in their duties.

Responding to the visit, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahya Daura, welcomed the Hisbah delegation and expressed his satisfaction with the board's leadership. He praised their efforts, stating, "Laws need amendments from time to time. The Assembly is open to sitting with you for discussions and offering suggestions to address the challenges facing the board."

He added, "We in the Assembly are ready to engage with you to improve Hisbah’s operations and strengthen ties with the public."

Hon. Daura urged the Hisbah leadership to remain diligent in their work, to be thankful to God, and to fear God in all their affairs. He further emphasized, "I am pleased with the appointment of Ahmad Dako as the Council Chairman of the Board. He is a skilled, truthful individual who is neither biased nor self-serving."

He also assured that the Katsina State House of Assembly would continue to work closely with Hisbah to improve the moral standards of the state's youth. "Whenever the need arises, the Assembly will review the law for adjustments or relaxations depending on the prevailing circumstances," he stated.

The visit was attended by representatives from security agencies, including the NDLEA, Road Safety Corps, the police, and others, to ensure full cooperation in the efforts to maintain peace and security in Katsina State.
