Maiden Meeting Held for Steering Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection.

In a collaborative effort between the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Women Affairs in Katsina, a maiden meeting was convened to establish a steering committee dedicated to addressing gender-based violence and child protection. The event, which took place at the Banquet Hall, Government House, on Monday, April 29, 2024, saw the active participation of various stakeholders committed to combating these pressing issues.

The meeting commenced with a comprehensive presentation by the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajia Zainab Musa Musawa, who outlined the objectives and strategies of the committee. Highlighting the urgency of the matter, the commissioner stressed the importance of collective action in safeguarding the rights, and well-being of women and children across the state, as well as the current state of GBV activities in Katsina.

Her Excellency, Hajia Zulaihat Dikko Umar Radda, in her remarks, graced the occasion with a poignant speech, emphasizing the critical role of community leaders, NGOs, law enforcement agencies, and civil society groups in creating a safer environment for all. She reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to combating gender-based violence and ensuring the protection of children from harm in the state.

The event drew a diverse audience, including  politicians, traditional rulers, representatives from NGOs, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, the chief judge of the state, police station command, Hisbah baord, and civil society groups. Their presence underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing these complex societal challenges.

With the establishment of the steering committee, it is anticipated that concerted efforts will be made to develop and implement effective strategies for preventing and responding to gender-based violence and child exploitation in Katsina. The commitment demonstrated by all participants signals a promising step forward in fostering a safer and more inclusive society for everyone.
