The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed commendation for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) during a courtesy visit by the National Executive Committee of IPMAN. The Minister applauded IPMAN for embracing the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative introduced by the Federal Government in response to the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.

Highlighting the significance of the CNG Initiative, the Minister stated that the Federal Government aims to reduce transportation costs by more than 50%. He acknowledged IPMAN's pivotal role in championing this initiative and commended their proactive approach to shaping the energy landscape in Nigeria.

President Tinubu's decision to remove the fuel subsidy was described as a bold move, providing a unique opportunity for organizations like IPMAN to lead the charge in adopting alternative energy sources. The Minister emphasized that the CNG is a promising solution to lowering transportation costs in the country.

The Minister disclosed that the Federal Government has allocated N100 billion for the purchase of CNG buses and the establishment of CNG centers nationwide. Additionally, tax waivers have been introduced for CNG kit importers and other investors in the sub-sector.

Expressing concern about the impact of fake news on society, the Minister acknowledged IPMAN's role in countering misinformation. He pledged support for IPMAN's initiatives, including the radio and television program "IPMAN Today," designed to provide authentic news on the Association's activities.

In response, IPMAN's President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, pledged unwavering support for President Tinubu's CNG Initiative. He affirmed IPMAN's commitment to complementing the government's efforts in the green energy program, aligning with the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Shettima raised concerns about the manipulation of petroleum product prices through fake news and sought the ministry's support in combating this challenge. He introduced "IPMAN Today" as a credible source of news on the Association's activities through a radio and television program.

The Minister assured IPMAN of his commitment to enhancing the visibility of "IPMAN Today" and leveraging the Association's 30,000-member structure to implement value re-orientation programs encapsulated in the National Value Charter.
