EFCC Presents Defense and Budget Proposal to House of Representatives Committee on Corruption
On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented its defense before the House of Representatives Committee on Corruption, seeking approval for a budget of 76.586 billion Naira in 2024. This signifies a notable increase of 53.48 percent from the 2023 budget, which allocated 49.901 billion Naira.
The proposed budget includes allocations of 37.074 billion Naira for staff costs, 14.513 billion Naira for capital expenditure, and 25 billion Naira for additional capital expenses.
Addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Economic Sabotage during the budget presentation, Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the EFCC, emphasized the 2024 budget's rise compared to the 2023 budget of N49.901 billion. He highlighted that the agency is requesting additional funds to cover increased expenses related to air travel tickets, car fuel, diesel, maintenance of buildings, work vehicles, and office equipment across its headquarters and fourteen zones.
Expressing satisfaction, the Chairman commended the committee for its support in enabling the Commission to fulfill its responsibilities and recognized achievements in combating economic and financial crimes, along with other corrupt practices.
