Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru] Fintiri, has applauded the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for its interest in developmental initiatives at sub-nationals towards building all-inclusive national reputation framework, describing the Institute as a credible partner in reconstructing the country’s narratives.
The Governor, who spoke in Yola on Thursday at the 38th Sam Epelle Memorial Gold Paper Lecture, said the decision of the Institute as the Nigeria’s most authoritative public relations body to bring the event to Adamawa offers the State the opportunity to tell its development story to both national and global audiences, attract tourism, investment and strategic partnerships.
"For us as a government, hosting the 38th Dr. Sam Epelle Memorial Gold Paper Lecture is not just about hosting another event. It is an opportunity to show the world what we have achieved in the last seven years in the areas of Infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, poverty alleviation, wealth creation, among others", he stated.
Speaking on the need for leaders to focus on legacy projects with positive impact on the citizens, the Guest Lecturer and Chairman, Channels Media Group, Dr. John Momoh extoled the vision of Dr. Sam Epelle, the first President of NIPR for the establishment of the foremost body in reputation and communication management, and urged public office holders at various levels to use their influence to bring lasting development to the society.
Explaining further on the theme, "Narratives that Build Nations in Diversity: Public Relations, Leadership and Future of Nigeria", Dr. Momoh said decades after his exit, the memory of Dr. Sam Epelle has continued to resonate as a result of his visible and measurable achievements in the public relations profession.
The media entrepreneur emphasized that "Public relations should help close the distance between institutions and the people they serve. It should help leaders listen before they speak, understand before they announce, and act before they advertise," he said.
Earlier in his remarks, NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, said that the current transformation in Adamawa State was an inspiring story that deserves national and global attention, while inviting the Governor to leverage the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) to showcase his achievements and promote the economic potentials of the State.
Dr. Neliaku pointed out that the NIPR Council’s inspection of major projects across the state revealed remarkable progress in quality infrastructure delivery and good governance, noting that the Governor’s investiture as a Patron of the Institute was purely based on outstanding performance.
