In a move aimed at boosting healthcare education and nurturing the next generation of medical professionals, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir-Masari, has unveiled a scholarship programme for Katsina State students pursuing medical and healthcare-related courses in Nigerian universities.
The initiative, named the Ibrahim Kabir Masari Medical Students Scholarship (IKMSS), is designed to ease the financial burden on students while encouraging academic excellence among aspiring healthcare practitioners from the state.
Announcing the programme in a statement issued on Thursday in Katsina, Kabir-Masari said the scholarship reflects his commitment to investing in human capital development and strengthening the healthcare sector through education.
According to him, the scheme will support students enrolled in a wide range of medical and health-related disciplines, including Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Nursing Science, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Optometry, Anatomy, Physiology and other recognised healthcare programmes.
He noted that the scholarship was created not only to assist students financially but also to contribute to the development of a highly skilled healthcare workforce capable of improving medical services and community wellbeing across Katsina State and beyond.
Kabir-Masari explained that only eligible Katsina indigenes studying in accredited Nigerian universities would be considered for the award.
To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in approved medical or healthcare-related programmes, possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN), and submit all required academic and personal identification documents.
He further disclosed that the application process has been made simple and accessible, as students will not be required to create user accounts before applying.
Interested candidates can submit their applications through the scholarship’s official online portal.
The presidential aide expressed optimism that the initiative would create opportunities for talented students to achieve their academic goals while preparing them to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s healthcare system after graduation.
Observers say the scholarship programme could provide much-needed support for many medical students facing rising educational costs, while also helping to address the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals in the country.
With the launch of the IKMSS scheme, hundreds of aspiring doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare specialists from Katsina State now have a fresh opportunity to pursue their dreams and contribute to the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
