A swift security operation by the Kano State Police Command has led to the rescue of the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, after he was abducted by suspected bandits during a late-night attack on Garun Mallam Town in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state.
The dramatic incident occurred on Friday night when heavily armed assailants reportedly stormed the town, located about 40 kilometres from Kano metropolis, firing gunshots into the air and causing panic among residents.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the attackers seized Alhaji Nadabo, a respected traditional title holder and prominent figure in Kano's agricultural community, before attempting to escape with him.
The attack also left three young residents injured. The victims, identified as Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba and Ibrahim Hassan, all aged 20, sustained gunshot wounds during the raid and were rushed for medical treatment.
According to the police, security operatives responded immediately after receiving a distress call, deploying tactical and patrol teams to the area. Reinforcements from neighbouring divisions were also mobilised as part of efforts to track the attackers and rescue the abducted traditional leader.
The operation was further strengthened by local vigilantes, members of the community and the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, who joined security personnel in pursuing the fleeing bandits.
Faced with intense pressure from the combined security team, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned their captive and fled into nearby bushes.
Alhaji Nadabo was rescued unharmed and subsequently taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital alongside the injured victims. Hospital sources confirmed that the three injured residents were receiving treatment and were in stable condition.
Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the professionalism of the officers involved and the support provided by residents during the rescue mission.
He noted that cooperation between security agencies and local communities remains crucial in combating criminal activities across the state.
To prevent future attacks, the police commissioner disclosed that confidence-building patrols had been intensified in and around Garun Mallam, while a manhunt had been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The command also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the perpetrators.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state's 44 local government areas, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to strengthen security and tackle emerging threats.
