The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has resolved to reintegrate the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) into the union.
The decision was reached at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NUJ held in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Tuesday.
Under the new arrangement, membership of SWAN will require an individual to be a duly registered member of the NUJ.
The council also resolved that SWAN members must operate in line with the provisions of the NUJ Constitution.
Consequently, the head of SWAN will henceforth be referred to as the SWAN National Chairman, rather than National President.
The decision is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two bodies and ensuring that sports journalists operate within the established professional and constitutional framework of the NUJ.
The development also places SWAN activities and membership within the broader structure of the NUJ, while preserving its role as an association for sports journalists.
