Governor Radda Assures Kusada Stakeholders of Continued Development

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has assured the people of Kusada Local Government Area of his administration’s continued commitment to improving infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and other essential services across the area.

The Governor gave the assurance on Monday when he received a delegation of stakeholders from Kusada Local Government led by Local government Chairman on a courtesy visit at the Katsina State Government House.

Governor Radda particularly commended the people of Kusada for maintaining peace and unity, describing the local government as one of the most peaceful and calm areas in Katsina State.

"I am proud of Kusada because it is one of the most peaceful and calm local governments in the state. I hardly hear of serious fighting or conflict there. I commend you for maintaining peace, and I urge you to continue protecting it," he said.

"As we have seen today, there is a positive change in Kusada, and the people are very cooperative. This is highly commendable. I urge you to continue in that spirit because development can only be achieved when leaders and communities work together," he said.

Governor Radda said his administration would continue to engage directly with communities in identifying their priorities and addressing their needs, irrespective of political affiliation.

He recalled that the administration recently concluded town hall meetings across all 361 wards of the state to obtain direct feedback from communities on their development priorities.

"We recently concluded town hall meetings across the 361 wards of Katsina State because we want to hear directly from our people about their needs. The projects we are implementing are informed by what our communities have told us," the Governor said.

On road projects, Governor Radda said the administration inherited several ongoing projects and had engaged contractors to assess their readiness to continue with them.

"When we came into office, we inherited several road projects. We called the contractors and assessed their readiness to continue. Where the contractors are ready and the projects are viable, we will continue with them," he said.

The Governor said significant progress had been recorded on some of the inherited road projects, with some reaching about 95 per cent completion.

He added that his administration had also embarked on a comprehensive rural and urban renewal programme, with major road projects undertaken in Katsina, Daura and Funtua, while similar interventions were being extended to other local government areas.

Governor Radda noted that the administration recently commissioned township road projects in Mashi Local Government Area as part of its broader efforts to improve road infrastructure across the state.

Responding to the stakeholders’ request on irrigation, the Governor described the development of irrigation facilities as important to improving agricultural production and increasing the income of farmers.

He said the government was providing tube wells and implementing the development of about 3,000 boreholes across the three senatorial zones to support irrigation farming.

"Your request on irrigation is very important because it will increase farmers’ income. That is why we are providing tube wells and developing about 3,000 boreholes across the three senatorial zones for irrigation. Kusada will receive the necessary attention under this programme," he said.

On healthcare, Governor Radda said his administration had made significant investments in improving healthcare facilities across the state, while acknowledging the need to increase the number of health professionals.

He explained that the cost of employing and retaining healthcare professionals was substantial, but the government was adopting a strategic approach to ensure that essential services were available closer to the people.

"We have done a lot in the health sector. The challenge is also the cost of employing health professionals because their salaries and other costs are significant. That is why we are prioritising the necessary services and ensuring that healthcare is brought closer to our people," he said.

Governor Radda said the government was upgrading primary healthcare facilities to Level II standard and ensuring that they provide services around the clock.

He added that the administration was providing ambulances, including tricycle ambulances, to communities and wards to strengthen emergency response and improve access to healthcare.

"We are upgrading our health facilities to Level II and ensuring 24-hour services. We are also providing ambulances to the wards so that people can have access to emergency transportation when the need arises," he said.

The Governor said the administration was also paying attention to doctors’ accommodation and other essential facilities around hospitals and healthcare centres.

He noted that the government had introduced free medicines for children below five years as part of efforts to reduce the healthcare burden on vulnerable families.

"We have also introduced free medicines for children below five years. We are looking at everything possible to reduce the burden on our people and improve access to quality healthcare," Governor Radda said.

On political representation, the Governor said the absence of a representative from a particular local government in the State Executive Council should not affect the distribution of development projects.

"Even if a particular local government does not have a representative in the State Executive Council, that does not mean it will be neglected. Our responsibility is to do everything possible to ensure that every community benefits from government programmes and projects," he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Kusada Local Government Area, Hon. Sani Aminu Dangamau, said the delegation came to thank Governor Radda for the various development projects and programmes being implemented across the local government.

He said the people of Kusada, who are predominantly farmers and livestock breeders, had witnessed improvements in security and economic activities as a result of the administration’s efforts.

"We are predominantly farmers and livestock breeders. Due to insecurity, our people faced serious challenges, but we are now witnessing improvements as a result of the efforts of your administration. We continue to pray for lasting peace in our communities," the Chairman said.

Hon. Dangamau described Kusada as one of the major producers of tomatoes and other agricultural products, and appealed to the Governor to consider the rehabilitation of the Kusada, Magami, Mawashi, Giginyu and Kaikai dams to strengthen irrigation farming.

He also appealed for the construction and rehabilitation of roads across the local government, including strategic road links that could improve the movement of people and agricultural produce.

Also Speaking, Member House of assembly Kusada Hon Gali Garba; commanded Governor Radda for the road projects and other development interventions across the local government, particularly the Kankia–Kusada road.

Hon. Gali also appreciated the construction of Secondary School, saying the project had demonstrated the administration’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for children in rural communities.

He appealed for the upgrading of Kusada Hospital to a General Hospital and called for additional road projects to connect Giginyu, Jofalawa, Tama and Bindawa.

On his part, the Chairman of the Kusada stakeholders’ said the stakeholders came together to express their appreciation to Governor Radda for the development projects being implemented in their communities.

He commended the administration for road projects, particularly the Kankia–Kusada road and other interventions that have improved connectivity within the area.

He also expressed appreciation for the construction of the Secondary School, describing the project as an important intervention in improving access to education for children in the community.

The stakeholders’ Chairman appealed to the Governor to upgrade Kusada Hospital to the status of a General Hospital, noting that residents currently depend heavily on healthcare services in neighbouring Kankia.

He further appealed for the construction and rehabilitation of roads linking Giginyu, Tama and Bindawa communities.

"We came with all the stakeholders from Kusada to express our happiness and appreciation for what your administration has done for us. We are grateful for the projects and we are asking for more interventions in areas that are still in need," he said.

The Event was attended by the Chief of staff, Hon Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; and other top government officials.
