Customs Raises Alarm Over Fake Recruitment Update, Urges Applicants to Ignore Rumours

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has cautioned Nigerians against a fake recruitment update currently making the rounds on social media, stressing that the information did not originate from the agency.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, described the circulating recruitment notice as false and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard it completely.

Maiwada said the Customs Service remains committed to transparency and would only communicate recruitment-related information through its verified and official channels.

According to him, applicants and other interested members of the public should be wary of unverified posts online and take steps to confirm any recruitment information before sharing or acting on it.

He emphasized that all legitimate announcements concerning recruitment exercises, appointments, and other official activities of the Service would be published through the NCS’s recognised communication platforms.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the NCS,” Maiwada stated.

To help applicants avoid falling victim to misinformation and potential fraudsters, he listed the Service’s verified social media handles as Facebook: Nigeria Customs Service, Instagram: @customsng, X (formerly Twitter): @customsng, Threads: @customsng, and TikTok: @customsng.

The warning comes amid growing anticipation among thousands of applicants who participated in the ongoing Customs recruitment exercise.

Recall that the Nigeria Customs Service received an overwhelming 573,523 applications during the first phase of its recruitment process after advertising 3,927 vacancies on December 27, 2024. The openings were spread across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.

Although several stages of the recruitment exercise were conducted throughout 2025, appointment letters have yet to be issued, leaving many applicants eagerly awaiting official updates from the Service.

The NCS reiterated that prospective recruits should remain patient and rely solely on verified information, warning that fake recruitment announcements could be used by scammers to exploit unsuspecting job seekers.
