Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old suspected drug trafficker and recovered 28 blocks of suspected cannabis during an intelligence-led operation along the Mashi–Birnin Kuka border axis.
The Command's spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
He identified the suspect as Ibrahim Usman, saying he was arrested at about 8:00 p.m. on July 20, 2026, while police operatives were on routine visibility patrol in the area.
According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence, which led officers to intercept the suspect. A subsequent search reportedly uncovered 28 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa in his possession.
Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he was transporting the illicit substance for distribution and sale within Katsina State and other parts of the country.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing. He is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, CP Ali Umar Fage, reiterated the Command's commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across the state.
He warned drug traffickers and other criminal elements to desist from illegal activities or face the full weight of the law, while appreciating residents for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies in the fight against crime.
