The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) will host the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Africa Regional Committee (ARC) in Abuja from July 20 to 23, with stakeholders set to deliberate on strengthening financial stability and crisis preparedness across the continent.

The four-day event, themed "Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future," will bring together chief executives, directors, senior officials of deposit insurance institutions, financial regulators, and other key stakeholders within Africa's financial safety net.

According to the NDIC, discussions will focus on strategies to enhance public awareness and improve crisis preparedness in deposit insurance systems in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.

The workshop is expected to examine ways of sustaining depositor confidence through effective communication, stronger collaboration among financial safety-net institutions, and the adoption of practical tools for crisis management and resolution.

Participants will also exchange experiences on emerging risks facing the financial sector, including financial technology (FinTech) innovations and cyber threats, while exploring measures to strengthen regional frameworks for effective crisis response.

The programme will feature technical committee meetings, plenary sessions, and interactive roundtable discussions on public awareness during normal and crisis periods, crisis preparedness and management, system-wide response operations, and simulation exercises aimed at testing institutional readiness.

The event will be declared open by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, while the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Other dignitaries expected at the conference include Ms. Eva Hüpkes, Secretary General of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), and Ms. Julia Oyet, Chairperson of the IADI Africa Regional Committee.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NDIC, Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, will serve as the Chief Host of the conference.

The annual gathering is expected to provide a platform for peer learning, policy dialogue, and collaboration aimed at strengthening deposit insurance systems and reinforcing financial stability across Africa.
