A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Obafemi George, has said Nigerians will, in the years ahead, appreciate the economic and institutional reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu.

George, a founding member of the APC, made the remarks during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos, where he also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure a decisive victory in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the administration's policies, opposition politics, economic reforms and the 2027 elections, George said Tinubu had laid the foundation for modern Lagos as governor and was replicating similar reforms at the national level.

He said the President had prioritised infrastructure development, economic restructuring and institutional reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth.

"Whatever Lagos is today, Tinubu laid the foundation. Lagos has become one of the most attractive investment destinations because of those reforms, and he is replicating the same approach nationally," he said.

George urged Nigerians to be patient, arguing that no country had transformed its economy within a few years.

He cited countries such as China, Singapore, Rwanda and Dubai as examples of nations whose economic transformation took decades.

"No country moves from poverty to prosperity in three years. It requires painful reforms, sacrifice and time. In 10 years, Nigerians will look back and appreciate the courageous reforms President Tinubu has undertaken," he said.

On opposition politics, George dismissed allegations that the APC was responsible for the internal crises in opposition parties.

According to him, the challenges facing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) predated Tinubu's administration and were rooted in internal disagreements, particularly over power rotation ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

He said his confidence in Tinubu's re-election was based on electoral statistics and the APC's political structures across the country.

George identified the North-West and South-West as key voting blocs because of their large voting populations, adding that the APC also maintained strong political structures in the North-Central and South-South regions.

"Politics is a game of numbers. Elections are decided by votes and political structures, not emotions or social media conversations," he said.

George also highlighted some Federal Government interventions aimed at easing economic hardship, including free caesarean sections for indigent women, an 80 per cent subsidy on dialysis treatment at designated federal medical centres and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

He urged Nigerians to verify information before accepting claims circulating on social media.

"Government has introduced several interventions to support citizens. People should always verify facts before drawing conclusions from social media reports," he said.
