The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Federal Capital Territory Command, has recognised a female inmate, Hajiya Mariam Suleiman, for her exemplary behaviour, strong commitment to vocational training, and positive influence within the custodial facility.
The award was presented on Friday at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Suleja, by the Controller of Corrections, Christopher Jen, who said the recognition reflects the service’s broader rehabilitation and reformation mandate.
Jen explained that the honour was designed to encourage discipline, productivity, and personal development among inmates, noting that Suleiman stood out for her consistent dedication to vocational activities and her constructive engagement with fellow inmates.
According to him, the recognition forms part of the service’s ongoing strategy to promote rehabilitation and successful reintegration of inmates into society.
“This gesture is aimed at motivating inmates to remain focused on reformation and personal development while preparing for successful reintegration into society,” he said.
He urged other inmates to embrace good conduct, vocational training, and self-improvement programmes, assuring them that positive transformation would continue to be recognised within the correctional system.
Also speaking, the Officer-in-Charge of MSCC Suleja, ACC Sunday Ejeh, praised the awardee for her discipline and consistency, describing her as a model inmate whose behaviour reflects the goals of correctional reform.
Ejeh reaffirmed the NCoS commitment not only to secure custody but also to rehabilitation through education, skills acquisition, and behavioural development.
“This recognition demonstrates that diligence, productivity and good conduct are valued and rewarded within the correctional system,” he said.
Similarly, the Head of Industries, Female Wing, DSC Rita Micheal, said Suleiman had consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and productivity, contributing significantly to the centre’s vocational output.
Responding after receiving the honour, Suleiman expressed appreciation to the correctional authorities, describing the recognition as a source of hope and renewed determination.
“This award has inspired me to continue striving for a better and more meaningful life,” she said.
She pledged to maintain her good conduct and expressed her intention to support inmates after her release through humanitarian and non-governmental initiatives aimed at promoting rehabilitation and positive living.
