The Katsina State Government says joint security forces have intensified operations against banditry, leading to the killing of five suspected bandits and the rescue of 32 kidnapped victims across parts of the state.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Katsina.
According to the statement, the operations targeted a notorious bandit leader identified as Muhammad Fulani, who is said to be operating in Matazu, Musawa, Kankia, Charanchi and some parts of Kano State.
Dr. Mu’azu said security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, 10 magazines and nine motorcycles allegedly used by the criminal group during the operation.
He added that one of the bandits killed during the raid was Samagi, described as a close associate of notorious bandit kingpin, Muhammadu Kachalla.
The commissioner further stated that the operations led to the rescue of 32 abducted persons, including 10 women, nine men and 13 children, who were reportedly held captive by the bandits.
He reiterated the state government’s stance against negotiating with bandits, noting that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda remained committed to eliminating criminal activities across the state.
“The operations targeting Muhammad Fulani and his gang are still ongoing as security forces continue coordinated offensives in the affected areas,” the statement said.
The government also urged residents to continue providing useful intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at tackling insecurity in the state.
