The Katsina State Automobile Electricians Association has paid a courtesy visit to the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA), aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration, enhancing mutual understanding, and promoting compliance with traffic regulations in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the association, Usman Aliyu, said the delegation was at the agency to reaffirm its commitment to working closely with KASSAROTA in maintaining law and order.
“We are here to strengthen our relationship with KASSAROTA, considering our shared responsibility in ensuring safety and compliance with the law. As law-abiding citizens, we remain committed to supporting the agency’s efforts in tackling criminal activities and promoting sustainable peace in Katsina State,” he said.
Aliyu added that members of the association contribute to government efforts by creating employment opportunities and discouraging idleness among youths.
Also speaking, the association’s Secretary, Malam Husaini Haruna, reiterated their commitment to obeying traffic regulations and supporting the authority. He noted that the visit would further deepen engagement between both parties while enabling members to better understand KASSAROTA’s operational guidelines.
“Not everyone is fully aware of your regulations. Through this visit, we hope to gain better knowledge and, in turn, educate our members accordingly,” he said.
Haruna, however, raised concerns over challenges faced by members, particularly incidents of harassment by KASSAROTA officials while conducting test drives on repaired vehicles and motorcycles. He appealed to the authority to recognise their operational realities and address the issue.
In his response, the Director General of the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA), Major Garba Yahaya Rimi (Rtd), welcomed the association and described them as key partners in the development of the state.
He urged members to support the agency’s activities, noting that its operations are designed to protect lives and property, not to intimidate citizens.
“KASSAROTA was not established to fight the people but to safeguard lives, property, and public health. We expect your cooperation whenever you encounter our personnel in the field,” Rimi said.
He explained that the agency often conducts enforcement and public sensitisation exercises across communities to restore compliance with traffic laws, adding that misunderstandings sometimes arise due to lack of awareness.
Rimi stressed the importance of adherence to traffic regulations, noting that KASSAROTA operates under 86 established laws enacted since 2019 during the administration of former Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
“Our objective is not revenue generation but compliance. Even if substantial funds are generated, failure to obey traffic laws means we have not achieved our goal. These regulations are designed to protect lives and property,” he added.
The Director General also disclosed that the agency operates a Public Complaints Unit and encouraged the association to report any misconduct by its personnel. He further revealed opportunities for interested members to join KASSAROTA as volunteers.
He commended the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for prioritising developmental initiatives and urged citizens to support efforts aimed at advancing the state.
Rimi advised members of the association to adopt proper identification measures, including the use of uniforms and identity cards, to facilitate recognition by enforcement officers.
As part of the engagement, copies of KASSAROTA’s regulations were presented to the association for study and dissemination among members.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the agency’s headquarters along GRA Road in Katsina, was attended by leaders of the electricians’ association and senior officials of the authority, including its Secretary, Aminu Lawal Batsari, the Deputy State Commandant, and heads of departments.
The engagement is expected to foster stronger cooperation, improved compliance with traffic laws, and a more effective working relationship between both parties.
