The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a special enforcement campaign, codenamed “Operation Fushin Zuma,” aimed at improving compliance with road traffic regulations and reducingq accidents across Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The initiative was inaugurated on Monday in Kaduna by the RS1 Zonal Command, with the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Sanusi Gambarawa, describing the operation as a strategic response to persistent traffic violations and road safety concerns within the zone.
Speaking at the launch, Gambarawa said the operation was introduced following a directive from the FRSC National Headquarters after a high-level meeting involving the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, zonal commanders and sector commanders from across the country.
According to him, the exercise forms part of a broader strategy to decentralise critical operational activities from the national headquarters to the corps’ 12 zonal commands, enabling each zone to tackle road safety challenges specific to its environment.
He explained that “Operation Fushin Zuma” was carefully designed to address some of the most common and dangerous traffic offences recorded within the RS1 Zone.
Among the key violations targeted by the operation are the use of unsafe or worn-out tyres, road hazard-related offences, vehicle overloading, and mixed loading—the practice of transporting passengers and goods together in the same vehicle.
Gambarawa noted that all sector and unit commands within the zone had been fully mobilised to ensure the successful implementation of the operation. He added that enforcement activities would be complemented by sustained public enlightenment campaigns aimed at educating motorists and other road users on the importance of obeying traffic regulations.
The FRSC commander said the operation would not only strengthen compliance with road safety rules but also support the corps’ broader mission of reducing road traffic crashes, preventing avoidable deaths and creating safer highways for all Nigerians.
He urged motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel throughout the exercise, stressing that ensuring safety on the roads is a shared responsibility.
“Road safety is everybody’s business. Compliance with traffic laws is essential to protecting lives and property, and we appeal to all road users to support this initiative,” he said.
Gambarawa further reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to working closely with transport unions, government institutions and other stakeholders to improve road safety standards and promote responsible road use across the country.
The RS1 Zonal Command covers Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, making it one of the key operational zones in the FRSC’s nationwide road safety framework.
