Governor Radda Hosts International Diplomats at Katsina Eid-el-Fitr Gala Night

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has described the presence of international diplomats at this year's Eid-el-Fitr celebrations as a historic milestone for the state, fostering future partnerships and investment opportunities.

The Eid-el-Fitr Durbar Gala Night, held at Hillside Royal Suites in Katsina, welcomed European Union (EU) representatives and ambassadors from nine countries, along with their spouses. Speaking at the event, Governor Radda emphasized the significance of the gathering in projecting a positive image of Katsina to the global community.

“This is a historic day for our state. For the first time, we are hosting dignitaries from across the globe, marking a significant milestone,” Governor Radda stated. “Your presence here today is just the beginning of a partnership that could lead to future investments and collaborations that will benefit our state.”

Highlighting the rich history of Katsina, Governor Radda noted that the state has produced three Nigerian presidents, including the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari in both military and civilian capacities. He further reassured guests of Katsina’s safety and hospitality, dispelling negative perceptions often portrayed in the media.

“We want the world to know that the negative portrayals of our state in the media do not reflect our reality. Today, you are here in Katsina, experiencing firsthand the true essence of our people and culture,” he added.

Expressing appreciation for the international guests, Governor Radda said, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Your Excellencies for your kind words and generous gestures. Your presence here—sharing meals and engaging with our people—is something we deeply cherish.”

Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic corps, EU Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Gautier Mignot, commended Katsina State for its rich cultural heritage, safety, and hospitality. He acknowledged the experience as a unique opportunity to understand Nigeria beyond the “Abuja diplomatic bubble.”

“Nigeria is a vast and vibrant nation, brimming with cultural diversity. The heritage of Katsina State, as we've witnessed, is a shining example,” Ambassador Mignot said. He lauded the state’s traditions, the grandeur of the Durbar procession, and the warmth of its people.

“To build partnerships, we must first understand one another—your values, history, and the spirit of your community. True friendship and collaboration begin with cultural respect,” he added.

As a token of appreciation, Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe presented the visiting diplomats with special gift packages, including a book chronicling Katsina’s history from a province to a state.

The Eid-el-Fitr festivities in Katsina attracted ambassadors from Bulgaria, Belgium, Finland, Portugal, Serbia, Mexico, Ireland, Poland, Vietnam, and the European Union. The gala night was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Abdullahi Faskari; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; members of the State Executive Council, and traditional titleholders.
