The Special Adviser Katsina State, LG Inspectorate Hon. Lawal Rufa'i Safana has stated that the lack of an explicit role for traditional institutions in our local government system has made it inadequate to address historical and cultural issues in our local communities which have contributed largely to the present banditry and general insecurity. Hon. Safana, made this remarks during two days training workshops for the Directors of the Katsina state LGAs.
Hon. Safana urged the House Committee on Local Government to keenly under- study the local government system, this according to him will assist the Committee to fish out gray areas for amendments in the state local government law.
He emphasised that, unless such gray areas were addressed, local government system will never be effective as an agent of grassroot Mobilization.
The Special Adviser pointed out that sustainability, check and balance in the LG administration must be ensured for the system to survive.
He pointed out that there must be coordination between the elected leaders and LG staff for discipline to thrive in the LG administrative system.
